Default from xp back to vista

hi
i brought a laptop with vista on it and i wanted xp so i created a partition and installed xp on that i had to change the sata settings in bios to ATA for xp to boot, i now want to go back to vista i have tryed changing it back to AHCI but it just attepmts to boot in xp then keeps reseting any ideas how i can get it to boot back in vista?

run vista installer disk and repair the partition where vista is installed.

You could try Hirens Boot CD, that has recovered a Vista Ultimate partition on a laptop in a similar setup (but linux rather than xp) - which partition recovery tool I used on that disk though, I cannot remember.

Hope you get somewhere with that anyway. Let us know how you get on

you seem to have an XP installer disk, boot up from the disk untill you get to the stage when you are asked to add or delete partition then you can delete the XP partion and reboot the system and see if that gets vista to boot if not re-do the SATA/ ATA setting you've changed before m8.
