Exclamation Astra versus Hotbird for German Channels

Is it me, or do I detect that the best satellite for german channels is Hotbird and not Astra?

Having gone solely digital with my sat receiver , I have done a full scan and search for both LNB's (actually on one dual LNB which is monoblock to 19.2East and 13.0East) and I find that there are more "together " channels which are for german channels on Hotbird than Astra.

anyone else into german?

There are far more German channels on 19E.

sorry, I should have added that I only want Freetv channels

My autosearch brings in 117 on Astra and 156 on Hotbird.

The Lyngsat.com/freetv/germany site lists 174 freetv sites.

I can only assume that my setup does not pick up them all.

I can of course get lots more of the subscriber channels.
cheers.

According to King of Sat,as of today:29/9/09
There are 330 FTA German channels(this includes radio),on 19E
On 13E,there are only 19 FTA German language channels(includes radio)

I think your satellite names are incorrectly labelled, and most likely your transponder lists needs updating.

Assuming your dish is focused on 13E.
13E should be on port A/Mini A/Diseqc 1/A
19E should be on port B/Mini B/Diseqc 2/B

Most receivers allow sorting of channels, according to satellite,so that should give you a clearer insight to which channel is on which satellite, assuming the satellite is correctly labelled in the first instance.

Thanks for your reply....
I have a couple of points....

""I think your satellite names are incorrectly labelled, and most likely your transponder lists needs updating.""
My Fortec Star is 3 years old. But the Satellite labels are probably uptodate, I think..

""Assuming your dish is focused on 13E.

I use a monoblock LNB with Astra at 19.2 as primary focus and Hotbird alongside.

All the channels listed in Kingofsat I have already picked up using my Autosearch.

I am disappointed that I cannot now, after disposing of my analogue receiver for the new digital one, get Eurosport with english commentary. I can of course get the German language Eurosport transmission.

I would welcome any further comments you think are also relevant to my above points, thanks.

If 19E is the primary focus,then 19E in your receiver menus,should be labelled as Port A/Mini A/Port 1/Diseqc 1/A and 13E should appear as Port B/Mini B/Port1/Diseqc A/1
When you say you have disposed of your analogue receiver,do you mean disposed of permanently?
If not,and its in the loft/outhouse etc, then assuming your digital receiver has an LNB output socket(LNB Loopthrough),then you could connect it to the analogue receiver and still watch Eurosport in English, but make sure that when one receiver is ON,the other one is OFF(standby).

I have no idea how to see the receiver menus sorry!

I already tried the looping the analogue receiver and got the eurosport channel in english...
however, I took away the analogue so as to have more space.
I value the space more than the ability to see just one channel.
The analogue receiver is now residing in another room together with several other very expensive units bought years ago which I can't bring myself to throw away...you have to remember that I am from Yorkshire!

At least, your analogue is another room.
Mine's back in its box, back in the loft, due to lack of space
What model is your Fortec star, maybe there is an online manual for it?
Ah,there's nowt like Yorkshire folk.
Like me,you probably, hang on to things,in case it comes of use to yourself or someone else.
Nowt wrong with that.

I d/loaded the manual before I bid for the FortecStar 5600II....nothing in there about menus I'm afraid and nothing in the setup and installation screens about A ports etc.must not be relevant.
cheers

When using a monoblock, the port settings are highly relevant. Get the wrong settings and difficulties/confusion will be experienced.

As already said, Astra at 19E is the place for German channels, no debate. You can check where a channel is coming from by cross checking the channel name and transponder with lyngsat or kingofsat etc
