I have tried running DHCP Sniffer to get some MACs but I only get MACs (lots of them) and no configs. DHCP Force doesn't seem to bring any MACs back whatsoever. Is their a work-around for this?
Thanks. |

VM are starting to catch on now and are trying to make things difficult !
If you cant force (which you shouldn't really do anyway) then your mostly limited to trying Macs from different areas to see what you get. To get high speed Macs (20Meg) its often better to passive sniff from a subbed modem in a different area. This is because a lot of the higher tier modems have now been moved to alternate channels which you dont see from the lower tier modems. |

best thing to do is just try them untill you get online with 20mb bb. you don't need the names if its any thing like my area. just put what ever you like in the config name bit as the modem will get what it is given not what it asks for depending on mac used.

I can autoserve configs so I don't need a 20MB MAC. I just want to know how I could scan MACs easier. My uncle has a modded SB5101e running on 20MB (which I modded for him). Could I use this to sniff for more 20MB MACs?

This is something that I have noticed while scanning for MACS. The usual 'DHCP OFFER' and 'DHCP ACK' that used to hold the config file no longer do, however the only DHCP messages that do are from ip addressed such as 10.X.X.X rather than the 8X.X.X.X addresses.
My belief is that the config file is only provided upon bootup of the modem (ie, when the modem is still using a local IP of 10.X.X.X). Once the public IP address is known (8X.X.X.X), there is no reason to include the config file. Again because i am new to all this, any corrections would be appreciate
