Problems updating Eurovox Max - PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi guys,

New to forum so I hope I’ve posted this in the right section.

I have a Eurovox Max (blue) box which I’m trying to update with the latest firmware but not with much success.

I’ve bought a USB to Serial cable (off ebay) and have a R232 to R232 cable as well... is this a Null cable? or are not all R232's Null? if that makes sense?! My laptop is Vista. I’ve downloaded some drivers for the USB to Serial cable.




I’ve tried following steps found in the How-to's on the forum...

1. Take power cord out of the Eurovox.
2. Connect your Eurovox to your Computer using the USB to Serial & 'Null Modem' Cable.
3. Plug the power cord back into the Eurovox and put it into standby.
4. Extract the firmware folder.
5. Open the .exe file within the extracted folder.
6. Click the Upload button to save your current channel data. (Now this allows me to select a name for the file but when I press upload it eventually says “No Available Com Port...”)

Now I’ve had a look at the comport being used by going to Device manager > Ports (COM & LPT). And selected Com port 3 and 1 respectively.

Also tried uploading the new software and missing out the step of saving the existing firmware. But this just hangs on “Waiting for response from receiver....”

Really not sure what the problem is or what else to try. So all help and advice much appreciated!!

You need a null modem cable there is a difference in the wiring configuration , also when i done my eurovoxes i found com 1 or 2 worked better.

Ah! so a "Serial Lead (RS232)" isn't necessarily a Null modem cable?
