Default FTA or Freesat?

I've a novice at this but I have just fitted a 54 cm dish and have it pointed at 28.2 and feeding very successfully through a cheap 'camping' FTA receiver. I've also just bought a new HD flatscreen. I have some questions.

1. I know Freesat has HD broadcasts, does FTA?
2. If I decide to get a Freesat HD receiver would I need to realign my dish?
3. If I go with Freesat would a Fortec Passion + be adequate or should I be looking at something like the Humax HD receiver?

Thanks for any advice.

1.There are some Free to air HD broadcasts, which you could receive on your minidish(?).
Most easily receivable from Astra 1 at 19E and Hotbird at 13E:
19E
13E
Obviously to receive either or both satellites, means moving your dish.

2.No,as Freesat is broadcast from 28E

3.Freesat has its own range of receivers(SD and HD),which you must have,if you want access to the Freesat epg/guide.
The Fortec Star Passion+,is a Free to air receiver, and it is perferctly capable of receiving HD channels, which are on the Freesat epg,e.g BBC HD.
However you would not have the epg lineup/channel numbers and only/now and next epg information, whereas the official Freesat receivers have a 7 day guide.

You can pick up a Freesat HD receiver from Argos for 60 quid odd, that will do the job. The Fortec Passion is not a Freesat receiver.

Freesat is essentially a subset of FTA satellite, with the added EPG, and ITV HD (viewable on some FTA HD boxes)
