Default Mac address and free internet

I have purhcased a new modem that seems to be flashed and is on its way to me, now, i have been advised thatto get this set up properly i need to get a mac address from another area to myself, does anyone know how to find mac addresses then get it onto the modem? and is the flashed modem as safe as using the eurovox's or can you get caught?

thanks

Please keep anything related to VM cable services within the cable section!

Broadband is for general bb enquiries not for asking how you can get cable internet freebies in.

yes, i do have a working modem at the moment, i was told that the "sniffer" programme only found mac addresses in my area and i am supposed to try and use one from a different area,is that correct.
