Default Fiat ECU's

I have been experimenting with Fiat ECU's for some now. I do not (currently) have anything to read Micro's only eeprom etc. From what I have discovered so far there are 2 types of marelli ECU. The early square one with micro's only and the newer rectangle one with 27c512 inside. I have scoured the scrap yards and managed to find a range of the rectangle ones without immobiliser. When I get a a problem I simply put the dump off a non immobiliser one into the 27c512 and unplug the code block etc. If the car has an old square ECU I simply get a rectangle one from a scrap yard and put the correct dump for the correct ECU into the 27c512.

Today though I had a most peculiar problem. I went to a car that was a non starter and had both the code and management light on. I did a couple of simple tests CKP sensor etc all ok yet no spark or injection pulse. I disconnected the code block and replaced the square ECU with a modified rectangle one. When I switched the ignition on all the lights came on then went out. After a few seconds of winding the management light came on and the vehicle didnt start. I left the vehicle for a couple of days unti I got a little less busy, then went back and tried to start it with the "new" ECU in still no joy. I refitted the original ECU and it fired straight into action! Why was this? The original ECU clearly had immo built inbut noe it starts with the code block unpluged! The car wouldnt start with the rectangle ECU form another Chinquicento 900cc with the immo removed from the 27c512 yrt it would start with the original ECU with immo still programmed in it!?

Also I was wondering where is the code stored in the codeblock? Is it in the 93c46? If so what part of the dump is the immo?

I think in future it would be best to remove the immo form the 27c512 that came in the ECU rather than put a completely new dump in it from an ECU that did not come with the vehicle, but which line is the immo line and what should it be modified to?

Finally I am getting motorola cracker so any info on the motorolla micro in both the old square and new rectangle ECU's would be much apperciated.

Many thanks.

sent you a few files that i have, not sure if there of use in this case but have a look.
have you allready got your mcu interface for motoroller cracker?? if not i have schematics somewhere, but your best of with UPA-usb from elrasoft for a progger that will read en write in circuit, and his backup is great and you will need it
or proggers from ETL are very good aswell, but you need to remove micro for these. all depends what your working with.
whats the mask on the mcu your looking at

Thanks for that mate, there is some stuff in there on the Bosch ECU's which is bound to come up sooner or later, I keep thinking I must prepair myself for this. I will email you all that I have on the Fiat/Marelli ECU's soon when I remember to bring my lappy in from the van. I havent ordered a motorolla cracker interface so much as the board and componants which I will build up myself. The board is supposed to read and write them in situe but I will soon see. For £36 though I will take your advise and get the elrasoft, it doest do as many motorolla chips as the motocracker but does some other stuff that I currently cant do. And its got a scope with it too!

i think you mean if you unplug the keypad(not ecu) when engine is running it cant reimmobilize, works 100%

but maby ecu works aswell, but i know which one i would prefer to unplug when running :-)
