Dreambox 500s

Hi Guys, Hope all is well!! I have got a dreambox 500s & a funcard well virgin media card. I also have a infinity programmer....... what do i need to get this box up & running? im not sure but it may be a chinese clone box. is this more troble than normal?? cheers in advance guys.......

if i have done something wrong i am sorry!!! if i am posting in the wrong place i am sorry........ i do not want to upset anyone. SORRY. Im just clueless on where to start, the guy who sold the box to me must be misrepresenting it........

So far you havent done anything wrong

We need to know which services you are hoping to open so we can advise you. The card is more or less useless these days though. Funcards were useful once - about 5 years ago.

What channels did the seller say you could access using the box??

all the sky channels & pretty much everything you get on cable & more. but i was told i would have to programme a card, which from what your saying seems i have been misinformed....... i would be very happy if you could give me an idea of what i can exspect to get out of that box... & any guidance cheers m8

You cant "program" a sky card. Google cardsharing Where did you get your receiver from?

6 months of headaches and head scratching before you begin to fully understand the full capabilities of the box.

Weeks of wondering "why the bloody hell isnt it doing what I expect it to?"

Some time next summer the epiphany of "aaaahhh I understand now - its actually a damn good box"

(Unless you have a cheapy clone some of which are nasty bits of sat kit!)

I would say the dealer sold you the wrong box with the wrong card. If he said you would be able to recieve the S*y channels than he shoud have sold you cable box to start with rather than a sat box. The funcard is only useful with a modified cable box and not a dm500s. If you live in a cable area than swap your dm500s with someone who has a dm500c. If you are not in cable than get yourself a dish and google cardsharing.

Linux boxes have some interesting capabilities but c/s is an advanced technique - which is specifically why I never mention it to complete beginners to the sat scene - it raises their expectations to an unreasonable level.

Dont even start to consider it unless you have dozens of hours to devote to it. You will not get any detailed info about it on this forum and no-one will hold your hand and help you get it working.

Seriously - there are HUNDREDS of hours of work involved in getting your head around it - and you have to put it in.
