the correct way is to actually add more solder before you start to lift. enough so that when you heat the whole of one side, your heating 1 blob.

Sorry I'm a bit confused - yes it is a mosc card - i thought i'd only need an unlooper if the card hadn't been hacked and programmed before i.e. if it was a new box being chipped and new card being hacked. Am I wrong again?

This only applies if a blocker image was loaded to the card to stop it being locked again, so yours maybe didn't have a blocker so needs to be unlooped again, though some say you can use mrom etc.

hi what can be done if the pad is lifted just out of intrest? just ive lifted a pad on my ambit 256 and was wondering if its now useless?
