Default Easy S.A. 8300 tut

I wrote this to make it as easy as possible to do the SA 8300:

How to SA 8300

Ok you got yourself a nice V+HD SA8300 and want to get all the channels.

The things you will need are:

1) You need to have the original VM card, and this should have been taken out of the Stream before the subs were cancelled, otherwise it may have received a dummy box key and then you may as well not go any further as it cannot be done (not at this time anyway) and is a doorstop .

2) You need to have the card unlooped to get the box key and ird.Whilst unlooping it will when running win explorer 5.4 give you the ird in a popup window when you first run the script. WRITE THIS DOWN as further tries will give a dummy ird. If you have a friend with and unlooper all fine or you may have to buy one.

3) A card writer capable of Phoenix mode such as the Infinity USB Phoenix.

4) A copy of both win explorer 5.4 , a copy of the bod script (rom11 unlocker.xvb) and a copy of Nagra Edit 4.1 plus the WinExplorer.ini file.

5) A good working Rom11 image for your provider , don’t go with a fun card as the original mosc is by far the best and easiest to do.

6) A blank 24C512 chip which you can get from places such as Chartman.

7) A small tipped soldering iron and some solder.

8) A security screwdriver to remove screws

9) A cable TV conditioning filter Noise Blocker, available on eBay around £7.00

Ok got all the stuff you need, so let’s do it!

Connect your card reader/writer and make sure the supplied software is installed, and then select phoenix mode and 3.58, this should then close to the task bar and run in the background.
Put the original card into the reader and start Nagra Edit, the click the blue arrow pointing to the left on the menu bar in nagra edit (just above data editor).
This should read all data from the card, when it completes you can then click the data editor and read the box key and what will be a dummy ird plus lots more, but all we need is the box key.
Save the image in case we get problems at a later date.
Open up the good working image and then in data editor put in you ird (which you wrote down at the beginning of unlooping the card) and your box key.
Then click on standard tier on the left in nagra edit and you will see rights date etc. set the rights date to something like 23 c8 or some date in the future. The other dates should be ok.
You now have a working image for your box, so with the card in the writer just click the red arrow on the menu bar in nagra edit and when it says are you sure you want to write to this card click yes.
The card part is now done and if all ok will work in your box.

Please make sure the box is disconnected from the mains electricity supply before opening the box.
Firstly you must open the box which is normally held with security screws.
The security screwdrivers can be bought at such places as Maplins quite cheaply.

Now we must take the box apart by unscrewing the three security screws in the back an after lifting the cover remove all the security screws which fasten the hard drive and the board to the base and the back also removing the drive cables and the card reader cable
Make sure you remove the nut holding the cable connector into the back cover
You will find there is a screw in the board inside the large silver cover over the tuner. Gently ease the locking tabs buy twisting and remove this cover (unless you have a long security head) and you can then unscrew the last one.

Now the board should come out, but ease it out carefully.

Turn it over and you will see a small chip with 8 legs. This is the 24C512 serial eeprom which contains your net id and pin number.
Before you remove this chip check where pin 1 is, there will be a small dot on top of the chip.
Now remove this chip (apply the soldering iron to each leg in turn and use a something such as a small needle to lift each leg) and when the chip is off carefully clean the pads and then replace it with the new blank one making sure pin 1 is in the correct place and being careful not to damage any tracks or shorting together any of the legs when soldering back. Use only a very small amount of solder.
When you have carefully inspected your work, replace the board remembering to put all screws back, install the drive and connect the cables.

Now connect the conditioning filter top the cable input and screw the cable to this.
Plug in the scart lead.
Holding down the up and down buttons on the front of the box , then plug in the mains cable keeping hold of the two buttons until the screen goes white then let go and wait this will take you to the engineers menu.
Alter the frequency to suit your area and save it then go to the next page and set net id (if in pure this will already be done).
Set you pin number to whatever you want such as 0000 and save this.
Unplug the box and let it boot up, you should now have all you channels.
You may have to wait until the card updates.

Enjoy Amazing

Good tut mate, can I just add to the part about lifting the chip:

Do not use a lot of heat if you are using a soldering iron to remove the chip, it is very easy indeed to lift the pads!

I know because I have just done it!
DOH!

Brilliant! Just what I was looking for cos I've just come across one of these to play with. I think it's possible to cut talkback by removing R202 if anyone finds that handy to know. Thanks.

If you cut talkback you may find the signal starts to drop out intermittently, so best to use the filter instead which does the same thing.

When I click on the blue arrow pointing to the left this is what it tells me - what am I doing wrong? Bearing in mind that mine is a card which has already been working with a chipped and paired box and seems to have reached its "i want more money out of you" date!

Opening of COM4 was successful
Reset failed
Error reseting card, ATR string invalid
Closing of COM4 was successful

I assume it is a mosc (original card) ?
If it is, it needs to be unlooped as per the beginning of my tut, as it appears to be locked or you haven't got the com port setup correctly in win explorer, or not got the ini file.
