Hi guys,
I have a major problem! My bro has fooked his PC and its now stuck on a blue screen when rebooting (allegedly 'The Blue Screen of Death' according to my brother). It is a Dell PC running on XP OS. This is exactly what it says: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. (? - This letter is cut-off from the screen so don't know what it is)RQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced start up options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: ** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x00000001C, 0x00000001, 0x8045B03C) I've followed all the steps above, tried to reboot in safe mode, tried to change my set-up etc but this has not helped. I was therefore looking for some urgent advice and help in this matter as my brother has got all of his uni application stuff on the PC and basically needs the PC up and running without losing any of his work. I hope you can help guys! Thanks in advance! Kimi.

Thanks for the reply mate. Will I lose my stuff if I do this? Also, how do I run chkdsk /r from console after boot from windows disk? Is that just start, run chkdsk /r once I've booted from the windows disk?

No, it just repairs the system files. You will get a CMD prompt when you launch the repair option mate just type the chkdsk command there.

This Stop error message usually occurs during installation when there was an attempt in kernel mode to touch pageable memory at too high a process internal request level (IRQL). Typically, this error occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error include an incompatible device driver, a general hardware problem, or incompatible software.

Running the chkdsk /r should fix pretty much most booting issues. Other than that you may need to do a fresh installation of windows. Failing that you may need to turn off features in your CMOS setting's mate.
