Default Starview 5 (The Box USB II)

Hello everyone, this is my first foray into the field of starview boxes, I have been using eurovox's for a while but a friend has passed me the above box, and I am after a bit of advice.

Initial info from system set-up is

Model ID = C531
S/W Version = 2.0
Boot Version = b-21
Date = Aug 04 2009

I have done the initial set-up/scan of the box and it finds all the channels with the premium ones indicated by a "$" sign. I believe I then need to update the firmware to 2.02/2.03, so - when i come to upload the software version 2.02 dated 22/09/2009 I get a download screen with the new details in it and a percentage bar with a warning underneath saying " BEWARE" do not disconnect or turn off power, this then stays on the screen and has not moved in over an hour. How long would this normally take, and GOD why did I say I could help him out. Many thanks for reading this far and I hope you can help.

Additional

I previously tried to upload the latest 23/09 software and got an error message saying "Not a file of this IRD" if this is of any help.

It should only take a few seconds for it to update.

Bad news for you, if you turn off the power now you will most likely get the 8882 error.

Good news is you probably have to wait a few weeks for the Jtag kit to be made for the SV5 so you can bring it back to life.

it should take about 1 min
the only thing you can try and do is turn it off at the back then back on and try again fingeres crossed you dont get the 8882 problem good luck

Am going to turn it off at the back and suck it and see, is it possible to re-upload the original firmware assuming it is out there. Cheers for the replies.

Additional

Have just turned off then back on again, upon boot up the LED display initially shows 8888 then changes to 8882 then shows b-01 before displaying the FTA channels. Stupid FU%^&%^G box or is it me.

I have tried menu and 1570 but nothing happens, I have also downloaded the software but the 23/09 file will not flash I just get an error message about an IRD, I read in another post about formatting mem stick in starview before trying to flash though this was for a starview 4 but I think it might be worth a shot.

Thanks martin and cbk for taking the time to reply to my problems, I have sorted it out by formatting the mem-stick in the box itself then copying the latest firmware file over to it then when I then execute the file it has now updated and took about 30 seconds. When it reboots it still shows 8888 followed by 8882, after this I used menu 1570 and turned to ON, one final question is If i remove the memstick will it still auto update in the future. Many thanks again.
