Lite On 74850C Flash

I bought a CK3 Lite and Probe, and have a Lite On drive which I plan to flash. I'm probably going to use Jungleflasher. I've read a few tuts and have a reasonable idea of what I'm doing though I welcome any tips if anyone can offer any?

On my CK3 I have a mode button, which if I press, turns a red light into a blue light - none of my tuts mention this - is this important?

Also I don't have the luxury of having a spare drive to 'spoof' so I'm probably gonna go ahead an use whatever key the probe picks up. Has anyone ever had a 'bad' key after a few probes? How likely am I to get a bad key?

Lastly, I'm not sure what chipset I have - I have a few SATA ports spare and my motherboard has an onboard NVidia graphics chip.

Will jungleflasher tell me if it's not compatible or will it toast my drive?

I'm going to attempt to flash around 6-7pm Thursday 18th

That blue light probably shows you when Hitachi drives are in Mode B but you won't need this for Lite-On drives. Also, if you don't have a spare drive to spoof to, probe yours 5 or 6 times before you issue the erase command (this needs to be done in order to write the hacked firmware to it) to be sure that the key you get is good.

Most SATA chipset are comaptible with JungleFlasher but a VIA6421 PCI card is recommended because they seem to work best with all drives (although my onboard SATA ports seem to work better with Hitachi drives than the VIA6421). Have a read of the updated JungleFlasher tutorial found at: http://www.jungleflasher.net/downloads.html. This will give you a better insight on flashing your drive.
