help needed.
hi all,
i would like to upgrade to a dreambox.so i need your help and advice. when you first get a dreambox is it like all other stb"s,ie:-:when set up, you get fta chns. unless you have a card or a cam to open the channels?, i am at this time a manhatten user and used to patching.card/cams programming. which is the best model, to start with. [1] does the stb have to be connected to a pc: at all times. [2] is it programmed/patched with a null modem cable. [3] a guide to what image"s/plugins/addons etc:are and which to use, a lot of questions and i dont know how easy the move to a d/b will be, any help advice will be most welcome. i look forward to getting your view"s and asking you more questions |

AIUI, they are very similar to the dbox2, ie you load an image via ethernet, the image can include all the softcams (or you can load them yourself later). They do not need to be connected to the PC at all times unless you are recording to a network hard drive or subscribing to a card sharing network.
Maybe someone with some hands-on experiance can give you more information ![]() |

lincsat thanks for input, i take you load the stb with a ethernet cable rather than a null modem cable, and an image has to be loaded first, i wish there was a tutorial video, like the technomate, that would make things a lot easier. all i need to do is sort out which is the stb to start with i would prefer one with a ci. and then hope i can get more help. |

as a newbie here i am just flicking though posts etc
ok i have more than one system although my skystar card is out oof action at the moment lol, i have a dream box dm7000 s although they don't do these any more . i have a hard drive fitted in mine and it is connected to to the net via a rooter at all time , i have a image in the flash ( but never use it ) a couple on the hard drive , when i started the hydra was the best but it is not supported now the same. ok so you will find a image ( i use sphinx and pola light at the moment) both are quite easy to use and have a control panel so that you can down load new emu ( cams ) and up to date keys with the push off a button als one emu may get you different channels than another although it is a push of a button to change it , also you can ftp emu etc and on many forums up to date key bundles are posted. one thing i would say is if you have the cash go for the bigger i one than the dm500 that seams to be limited because of the size of the flash, also you can't fit a hard drive in them although you can link it to your pc but i am not that good with the pc lol Teddy |

hi clipper m8
yes a dream box is a nice bit of kit especially if you don't want to spend money, ok i admit i am not the best technically but i learn as i go along , ok if you have used a pci card such as a skystar card you would know that they don't use plug in cams or cards, all the work is done with software found on the net, when i first got my card vlinders was god with the yankse and brought out updates as fast or faster than the cam manufactures, then cane s2emu that came out when seca 2 was hacked and there has been a couple of different ones , ok the dream box is like a receiver but with the advantages of the card , everything is done with software off the net ( images)then you need some emu or cams , different emu are better with different channels, they are updated all the times and you need key bundles , these can be ftp to you image or a lot of images have control panels , so you box is connected to the net and you download the latest control pannel and on it you will fine all the emu and key bundles, some images keep updates quicker than others. once you have downloaded the cam or emu then you can change them with a press of a button. ok i suppose for people who don't have a dream box and read about cams think it is a big cam you plug in but it is just a bit of software and it is free also on my dm7000s you can put 2 official cards and a cam in and use them , but hay why would i want to do that as it gets what i want.if i have told you things you know sorry but hope this clears a few things up , any questions fire a way but hay be gentle lol Teddy |

now the dm7020 is a much better receiver than mine as it has a better tuner , also is that the one with two tuners in ????
ok the way mine is set up is my net comes into a wireless router, then i have 2 computers wireless and then this computer vire a ether net cable and a Ethernet cable to the dream box, so as i am on broad band it is always connected to the net , the dm7020 you set it up a bit different and i am Shaw i have seen a how too and will find it and post it for you . ok about the images , the way i did it was loaded a image in the flash with dream up then i have a few images on my hard drive or they can be loaded on a usb stick, i use flash wizard pro for this . if you get one just have a play with it , you will make a fe f ups but you cant do too much wrong that carnt be fixed by re flashing the image and i am always doing that when i ftp thing wrong lol the only thing's i tend to ftp is things to the key and scce folded and these are usualy key bundles . just go and see if i can find that info for you Teddy |
