The old blue card won't last much longer. You wont be able to update the entitlements on the card so the best you can hope for is a few weeks.

The HDD will depend if the reciever takes IDE or SATA. Also look in the manual for the maximum size you can have.

Strange, my old blue card was cancelled 10 seconds after putting the new white one in the box. Old blue FTA cards are still working fine.

Actually, the actual algorithms are very, very similar. Both are based on RSA !

The differences are that NDS silicon is much better protected and that Kudelski didn't hack the NDS card and then give the dump to a hacker !

Once replaced they wont work in Sky boxes any more, but my old blue card is still happily working in my Dreambox. (And its still updating - the entitlements are now through to mid December!! )

There are currently problems with cards getting lost/delayed in the postal strike - Sky have said they will delay killing off the blue cards until the situation sorts itself out and things get back to normal.

Just pointing out that it was never the algorithms themselves that were broken. Sky encryption algorithms are, to all intents and purposes, almost identical to Nagra's and most other smartcard manufacturers. They all effectively use standard well proved algorithms.

Nagra's problem has been solely down to bad implementation and their choice to use ST based smartcards that have a known vulnerability to glitch attacks. Of course, NDS's analysis of Nagra's cards didn't really help Nagra very much
