Default Sony Vaio HDD recovery

Looking for advice.

I am replacing the HDD on a Sony VIAO laptop (VGN-NR11M). Is there a way to copy the hidden recovery partition to the new HDD to be able to perform a full system recovery afterwards.

Unfortunately there were no recovery cds created prior to the HDD failing.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

If the original hard drive is broken then it's not worth the trouble of taking it apart in the hope of recovering the partition containing the Operating System.
You should have a sticker, on your laptop, with the product key information required, just get hold of a copy, fo the Operating System CD/DVD, load it on the new hard drive, then download the required drivers from the Sony web site.
What Operating System was it running?
