*All* HDTV's go down in price over 18 months - but if you kept waiting, you'd keep waiting... The question is, how important is a really good picture to you? And do you mind cutting a few corners to get a cheaper price? |

The thing is Brian, with HD telly's, they were "HD ready" but there werent really any HD devices out and true HD was a long way away. Now, HD technology has been perfected with 1080p screens and other devices being the norm.
With LED, its a slightly different matter. No device was ever "LED ready" It just is or isnt. LED technology is still quite flaky, but as Ive nearly drooled over super thin TV's(lol) Ill be able to admire my LED netbook(damn ETA has moved from 8/01/10 to 01/02/10) Then again, just because a technology hasnt been perfected doesnt make it bad. Take USB sticks for example. Manufacturers at the time probably wanted to make static hard drives when they came out and only now is that technology being used properly and being perfected. The technology behind USB memory is still very flakey, but it doesnt mean its bad. With HD ready tellys, I would have waited(tell that to my parents though!) but with LED, I would probably be more tempted to buy one, but not at that price-oh and size isnt really an issue for me. Id be happy with a 19" to 28" screen any day For me as a student, Id be happy with CRT to be honest. HD doesnt mean too much to me, but efficiency and lower running costs does

Hello,
Led backlit lcd (light emitting diode) is the latest generation technology of lcd flat panels and can offer very noticeable but at the same time, significant improvements in picture quality over the traditional flourescent bulb backlit lcd panel. It's advantages start with the fact that they can be produced in much slimmer sizes than traditional lcd's, some led backlit lcd's can be as slim as 6mm and under. It's not just the slim form factor where led lcd panels excel, the nature of the led backlighting technology is much more accurate at producing colours and has a much more wider range of viewable colours than traditional lcd tv technology. Unlike the traditional flourescent bulb lcd tv panel which has a single back light positioned at the rear of the panel, Led lcd's have multiple led lights scattered all around the tv and some of the newly released led panels have almost 400 leds positioned around the panel.

It needs to be an oled if you want to get the best from the led range. Edge lit still have blue blacks round the edge but centrally they are better for colour. Still 1000 times slower in response to a plasma tho and dependant on brand can lack connectivity. At the end of the day it's what you like or see that you go for. Personally for the money at the moment I think they are way over priced and if you look at the led v g15b post I give more detail. I work with them everyday and see the pros and cons, finer points etc. Wait til there's more brand choice would be my advice... I hate lgd but they are due to launch some oleds and they are meant to be the shizzle. Also my fav brand panasonic are about to release there versions. Just keep in mind that when it's at home there's nothing to compare it against so you'll think it's the daddy regardless
