Default Im moving to Cyprus - Sky or Freesat.

Hello,

I am moving to Cyprus with work and currently have virgin. I seem to believe that some of the properties we are moving into may have a dish installed by previous owners.

I have been reading up on the Astra 2d footprint, and believe that the 3.5mtr dish can be tuned to either astra or eurobird.

So we have the dilema, do we go with a Sky box on the freeview type of system as I dont think we can warrant the cash spent each month, or go with a Freesat box and adjust the dish if one is fitted.

Or is there any other alternatives you can think of.

We have an old pace box in the cupboard with a blue house sky-card but i think these maybe out of date and no use.

Regards,

Chicco... Cyprus bound soon to be..

Not sure about sat m8 but few months back some from syprus did buy an old N*L analogue box on ebay from me, you should check on that they must have use for them there m8, and another guy from the same country was Enquiring about a sky box with blue card I was selling last week, they must use them for something otherwise there is no point in buying them.

Some of the older panny sky box's have a particually sensative tuner installed and are much sort after for picking up sly over there.

If its just tv your after ie. footy then cyprus is in the nilesat 7w footprint and they show every english football game available.

If you want the Astra 2D / BBC / ITV channels you are going to need a very big dish indeed in Cyprus whichever one you pick - over 4m in some places!

Hi all,

I read somewhere that a Dreambox is good for this area with a local dish for the cyprus tv, im really unsure on this. Not spoke to anyone in the region yet to clear things up.

Im just looking to look ahead. Currently have a kryptview a750 which will have to get rid of somehow. I know eBay isnt the place for them.

If i needed to get sky, i need to get it ordered asap to have it activated and running before moving out.

I agree on the rather large dish, i was ment to move out a few years back, and someone tried to sell me there old dish on the place for £100 extra or they would take it down.

Looking into it, i guess they simply cant just 'take-down' a 3.5mtr dish and it would of been left in place for me.

I want the kids to wake up and be able to put uk, english tv on etc and the wife able to record / watch corrie, eastenders etc.

£100 for an already installed 3.5m dish is very good value, take it!

Having Sky would help as with a 3.5m you might not be able to get reliable reception of Astra 2D, wheras the other beams would be easier to get.

Hi all,

We have an old panasonic box in the cupboard with the old sky blue house viewing card. We dont have any form of sky dish to check it out at the minute to see if its working yet.

We could re-subscribe to sky, but we wanted to run the system as cheap as a possible so asked about freesat, even HD freesat.

Being in the area, we should be able to pick up BFBS which is a local satellite system i think.

I am unsure what this covers, but may wait till we are out there.

We have 2 small children, so the loss of english tv & cartoons could be pretty bad for them, the only benefit at the minute for us is the poor exchange rate as we would be paid in euros.

BFBS is carried on satellite & uses a high power pan European bird

There are around 10 channels:

BFBS Television

Its only available to members of the uk armed forces.

Hi Chicco,
As Analoguesat mentioned:>
BFBS:> or( British Forces Broadcasting Services) is for HM services only.
Any equiptment they use to recieve BFBS, must be returned when they are posted, or no longer require the recieving equiptment abroad. All equiptment is thoroughly itemised and accounted for

Which is a great pity as there are many distant expats out of range of the BBC & ITV transmissions that would pay a LOT of money for access to the BFBS service!
