Receiver requests card change
Card acknowledges request I'm don't understand the IFS part but it would seem that the box is asking the card to change the size of the IFS to something larger than it the source code, therefore throwing out the timings. Would i be right in assuming this? |

LOL OK !
Erm .. About the StuntGuys FAQ ? I did a Google Search too, but nothing ! However I came across a place where they also recommended I read: 1) Chas1962 Newbie Guide 2) The Maestra Guide Apparently Stuntguys FAQ is the most advanced ! So I guess for n00bs like me .. It'll be better if I start with the two guides mentioned above. But before I start .. are they relavant to Cable or are they for Satelitte ? Thanks Anyone know where I can find them ? Thanks |

And straight away you've spotted something very anomolous. Repeated IFS attempts. Quote:
Your on the right track but you need to look a bit closer. Hint, the IFS is usually the first thing the box does when it resets the card. Quote:

set ifs = ( internal field seperater) when performing a command ..... At the semicolon the card or byyte command waits for the completion of any programs and commands that precede it, and then continues with a new command sequence in the new form.

When a card is reset the first thing that happens is the card sends the ATR (answer to reset) string. This is transmitted at the initial baud rate of 372 cycles per second. The ATR has information that the box uses including information which tells the box from now on will be using a baud rate of 32 cycles per second. OK thats the ATR out of the way, the first command that is sent from your box to the card, after the ATR, is the information field size command which changes the default size 20 to a higher value.
So knowing that if you keep seeing repeated set ifs commands in the logs what do you think is happening??? PS -You will not see the ATR in the logs because it is transmitted at 372 clock cycles and the logger is logging at the nominal baud rate of 32 clock cycles. The logging software will normally have some kind of filtering that will reject 'garbage' information that does not have a normal command structure.

With the repeated IFS you could say that the IRD has asked the smartcard to change its IFS, the cards being hardcoded with responses etc but I would think if it keeps asking to change it then the card was unable to change the ITS to the requested value. |
