Default Eurovox - Is this worth it? Help a newb

Guys,

Can someone help me understand this.

One of my mates is selling a brand new Eurovox. No idea what model it is but on the remoteit had a "PVR" button to access recorded data. It also had a 120gb HDD (looks like 2.5"). It is not HD.

This is being sold for about £160.00 - is it worth it?

Secondly, I have no idea how these puppies work and was wondering if anyone clue up a newb?

I personally have a Virgin V+ HD box that comes with a card. If the card goes off, I can get it reprogrammed.

As I understand the Eurovox doesn't come with a card??? Can it ever be knocked off? If it does get cocked, how are you supposed to resolve it?

I just wanna make sure, Im not buying something that will leave me in the loop if all goes tits up.

Cheers chaps.

160 is about the average price they are selling for.
The only way your eurovox will go off is when nagra 3 comes around.

What is Nagra please?

And when Nagra 3 comes out, what is one supposed to do? Would I need require special equipment to make it compatible?

Is the Eurovox cardless box a better hack solution than my Virgin V+HD box? I'm contemplating if I should keep it instead?

Cheers.

Nagra + eurovox = no more tv.

Same will happen to the cards I think, so whatever is the cheapest and easiest option I would go for mate.

Plus Nagra is an on going issue at the mo, so don't worry about it for now......

Thanks mate.

The last thing i'd want is buying this box, and Nagra 3 coming out. Am i right in assuming tha Nagra 2 is the current method of encryption and its cracked?

Also, the Virgin V+HD box can go funky every 6 months, which is when I have to get the card re-programmed.

Would you say the EuroVox PVR box is a better option considering it has no card to get mangled? Or can it get mangled via another way?

From what you've said it seems like ONLY Nagra 3 can cock it up (as it would anything else). This would indicate that its a more stable solution than a card based box that could go off every 6 months or so...

Please could you confirm that last bit?

The only advantage my Virgin box has is it's ability to produce HD PQ.

Thanks bruv.

I would personally buy a Eurovox EX1100 USB for around 90 pounds from Lincsat. If you ask him nicely that is, as he does a special forum offer. The boxes come with the latest firmware as well so it's ready to go. The reason I recommend this box is because you can update the firmware via Usb, so it's just a case of dragging and dropping the file onto a flashdrive and plugging it in to your Eurovox and badabing badaboom. Not that you need to update it very often though, as I have had mine for about two months with no problems or updates needed. People usually notify the forums if there is new firmware for different boxes etc anyway. Also, you can just buy your own HDD and use it with the 1100 and record TV etc. I think it's a waste of time spending 160 pounds when it's not even high definition. Besides, do you need 120 gig of space for TV?

I think the eurovox is more like having a titanium/opus card in a CC box, it can and will go off. I personally do not think nagra3 is that far away if you get more than six months out of it you will be lucky. It will then go off with no fix available and not likely to be one for a VERY long time. Plus there may be the added problem that hacked files/info may not be as freely available like the nagra1 hack, UK never had nagra2.
