Default difference in usb and hfc mac

hi guys hope you can help me out here
i have a 255 with haxorware 1.1 on it.
i can get it to work online ok with my own modemhfc and usb mac but im doing this one for my dad and im struggling with the macs. i used mac sniffer to get macs and have tried them all but none get me online. i know i have to change the usb mac 1 number either way from the hfc mac but still no joy. in my current modem, the usb number has a few different numbers to the hfc mac and works great but can get no joy with the new one. the new modem is a 255 and only has a power socket, an ethernet socket, and the input for the cable line so no usb connection.

please any help would be appreciated as im drowning with this

The USB MAC is the MAC allocated to the USB port of the modem and the HFC MAC is the MAC address you use to connect to the internet. Basically, the MAC you enter in HFC MAC is the one you have got from another UBR .

ok im starting to get my head around this a biot and i think i may be using the wrong mac's. on another thread someone mentioned that the macs need to have a config file that ends in .cm
can anyone else confirm this?
when i use the dhcp sniffer, it gives me many macs and a column that gives me bootfiles. would this be the config file i need?
anyways, it tells me the name of the config file but i assume i would have to download it from somewhere.
google it?
is that the answer?

You don't need to input the config file mate, leave everything on the config page blank and haxorware will locate the config for the mac.
Do only use scanned macs that have a config with them and the ones ending .cm are easier as you can compare them with macs of a known speed to avoid the need to speedtest each mac.
Hope this helps,
Prof

thanks prof. great help.
another question though, i have seen on another thread that you can use the same mac in 2 different areas but i tried this and it did not work. could this possibly be because of the ubr that its on? the 2 different places i tried are about 6 miles apart. is this too close or too far?

As long as the area is the same but not the specific ubr where the mac was scanned from the mac can be used on more than one modem however due to recent changes in the network not all good macs will now work in all types of modem so you may find that a mac working in a webstar will not work in an ambit etc whether in the same house or in another ubr.

Prof
