Default Can i plsy ps2 games on my ps3 80GB?

Hey guys got this ps3 80GB and i was told that i could play ps2 games on it as well but for some reason i cant play any of the 15 games i tried.
I have the latest updates on my ps3 as well
Any ideas please?

You can but not every game is compatible.

Check here: PlayStation.com. Enter the name of a game you want to play and it will tell you if it is compatible.

I'm pretty sure the only ones with the hardware needed to play PS2 games were the 60gb models, after which it was removed since it was too expensive to put the hardware in all PS3s.

Yes, that's correct. The 60GB PS3 has the Emotion Engine chip onboard so it can play all PS2 games but the 80GB only emulates PS2 games through software hence the lesser list of comaptible games.

you can only play ps2 game on a 60gb model as it has reverse technology
