Default System Restore error

Hi All, hope someone can help, I can't run system restore anymore, this has only happened recently and comes up with
"The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur (0x800423F3)"
Ihave tried several times now but it's still the same, I am running Vista on a Sony Vaio vgn-ns10e.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I had a Sony and had the same problem with it. Why are you wanting to do a system restore? If it is because you have a virus or the likes and you have one it might well be causing the problem. I would suggest that you try doing a scan with spybot, CCleaner or scan with your installed anti virus and see if that helps. Did you try and do a system restore further back than where you have been trying when you get the error? There has got to be an underlying problem, otherwise you would not be wanting to do a restore and it will be the cause of your problem, you will need to sort out whatever it is that you are trying to get rid of first. You could try downloading the free Trend Micro Internet Security scan and run it, you will be surprised what it finds.

Hope you get it sorted and this has been of help, if all else fails then you can always save you work and do a clean install of Vista, I take it that you made the two recovery disks when you got the laptop.

Regards Wez

Firstly thanks for your speedy response, the reason for the restore is that the laptop has started to lack performance and is getting slower mainly when on the net, I will try spybot and get back to you, yes I did the 2 discs so I can go back to basics but only if all else fails,
thanks once again.

I had the same problem for some time with vista tried the usual ie CCeaner to know avail, i was telling a young lad in pub and he asked what anti-virus i was useing, i told him Norton, he wrote this down to try.

In the Computer pane, click Settings.

Click Miscellaneous Settings.

Under Product Security, next to Norton Product Tamper Protection, click the status indicator to turn it Off.

In the Settings window, click Apply.

Click OK.

Now do your system restore.

It worked, wether my error num.. was the same i dont remember.
Dont forget to return your settings back.

Hope this can be of some help.

Hi Larryoke
Failing all the above, Try the Bitdefender website and there online scanner. I have used this company for 5 years. For myself its the best product yet.
