Default faulty lappy

Hi there my daughter has a 2-3 yr old HP lappy and it has started to crash when in use, its displays vertical lines and freezes, you have to either hold down the power button or if that doesn't work unplug at wall and then it goes back to normal when you power up, does anyone know whats wrong with it?

Thanks in advance

you can save the data and format the hard drive and see if the help, it sounds more like a hadware problem m8.

Has anything been installed recently, incompatible device drivers can cause BSOD and freezing?

If not try wiggling the screen a little, i know it sounds daft but a loose monitor ribbon connection can cause this problem / type of problem.
