Default The old AP:52 Problem

Hey i've googled quite a lot of this but can't find anything that's solved the problem. Earlier today my NTL reception was slow stop with volume and visual, so I rebooted the system.

However I was greeted with Tuner written on my NTL box and an old NTL logo saying this won't take long before you can view again. However this lasted about 25-30 mins with nothing.

So I did the other way I could remember of pressing up on the box when it boots and got the AP:52 message and a virgin logo on the screen. I remember this happening before and to wait but over an hour and nothing still. I've rebooted without the card in and with the card in but nothing.

I've got the power lead, the lead coming straight from NTL and an ariel lead in the back and I believe it's the PACE 4000 model. Any help would be greatly appreciated

check the inside of tuner ..ware the track ..joins the bit thats soldered ,,,sometimes there a hairline crack u cant see ..putting a blob of solder on it , or see if its loose first (think its the pl5 .track it goes onto)
+ check ur snr on BBC channel to see what ur geting ..should be above 28-29 for a good siganl on these boxes

had the same problem...the further the box was from cable feed. One of the 4001's updated every time it boots(holding down) sits on ap:52 for a few seconds then starts....could be a signal problem...i have a samsung 2010 which is the furthest away but starts on its own...failing that there is a stuck on tune tut in downloads..sure it is for pace though

It would appear that your box is stuck in TUNE. Look near where the cable feed goes in, on the inside, there is something there called PL5, re-solder this and your box should be working again.

I had the same problem but as suggested, I resoldered a crack where the cable feed connects to the box and it sorted the problem. Have a look at the stuck in tune tutorial in the downloads section; that will explain what you need to do.

I have never fixed this problem myself but I have spoken to people that have had the same issue and they fixed it by reflowing the PL5 connection. If it doesn't work then I would expect that the tuner is on it's last legs.
