Default analogue to digital, new v***** box

Got notcie that had to get my box from v***** changed from analogue box to digital box as they were turning analogue signal off(1st December) I have a eurovox blue box which i have used now no probs for 3 years so disconnected it to put analogue back in place for guy coming out to house.
The box v***** have gave me is a silver box with a smart card loaded into the front of it, with channel display right in the centre with power light on left hand side.it says v***** media v box on top left hand side with Samsung on top right hand, and underneath where the smart card is inserted it says SMT-2110C.The guy phoned his office after installation was complete to activate card. Also during the installation process he put pin numbers into the machine.
A few queries I would like answered if at all possible.
1.What is the purpose of the smart card? Is it to control the type of package of programmes that I am getting from v*****?
2. Will V***** be aware if I dismantle this machine and put my eurovox back in as the smart card will not be powereed up.
3. Will my eurovox work again if I reconnect it, and will it continue to work after 1st of December when the signal was changed from analogue to digital.
Obviously I am a bit loathe to set my eurovox back up if the smart card being disconnected will show back to v*****. I know it is not illegal NOT to use your v***** box but was wondering if there was any reason behind now being given a box with a smart card in it. My father in law has a digi box from v***** (he got it bout 2 years ago) and there is no smart card in it. Sorry if this is a bit long winded but any info would be appreciated,,thanks

Thought you were`nt allowed to mention cable company`s name on this site, and if anyone has any answers to my original queries then please feel free to impart your knowledge upon me.

Yes, the card tells your box what channels it can and can't decrypt. Oh, and your box will talk back to vermin, so yes, they will know if you disconnect it. Your Eurovox will be unaffected for the time being (until N3 rolls out).

In a nutshell, get yourself a splitter, keep your vm box plugged in (even if you never watch it) and just carry on using your Eurovox until the black screen hits it (no, I don't know when this will be)
