Default Help - trying to manually set up 1w

I am trying to manually set up to 1w, i can move my 80cm dish to pick up 16e qnd 13e but can't get anything going west. I went onto dish pointer which shows i have clear site from my address in Birmingham. I also noticed that the lnb skew is -11 for 13e and should be -0.8 for 1w. I have never moved my lnb and wondered do i go clockwise or anti clockwise and roughly how far. All help appreciated.
I have put this question onto another post on a different part of the site - apologies if i have broken any rules on duplication.

It's more important to get the dish elevation right before playing with the LNB skew, you should get BBC World without too much trouble.
Is your LNB pointing straight so that the cable drops to the ground in a straight line?

The lnb is not pointing vertical, if it was on a clock face it would probably be at about 7 o'clock.

Point it to vertical, 12 O Clock, but adjust your dish elevation so it's close to being flat against the wall, it then takes patience, and gentle tweaking, to get the signal.
Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can get it in minutes, other times it's a really annoying job

i still dont get this elevation stuff, on my alsat dark motor it had latitude setting. when i put mine in, which is for blackburn lancashire it would make the dish point almost horizontal.

i've seen the dish itself has tweaking points but when i look at other dishes dotted around my town they seem to look like there pointing at brick walls ect.

i've been out today and gave putting the dish up a go. the job got aborted due to bad weather.

im been looking at that dish pointer site for a fortnight now. i beleive that i should be able to get quite a good coverage if my dish is on the eaves.

ideally, i want a scaff pole prortuding above the eaves and my dish on there.

im really starting to get confused with it all.

this wind resistance thing is baffling me too..... i was going to get some 16mm rawl bots to put it up and my dad and his mates were laughing at me saying its way major overkill.

going to give it another go in the week when i've got hold of some t and k brackets and half a scaff bar.

Have a look at the motorised dish setup guides, it is quite straightforward really.

Don't forget the dish is offset, the face can be vertical, but it will actually directed approx 25 degrees upwards.

Above the eves on a scaffold with T&Ks is a good way of getting the arc, 16mm rawl bolts ar not an overkill, I mainly use those, not had one come down yet, done loads!

For above the eves 16mm is not overkill. If the dish is very exposed I will even use resin anchors.

If you are not able to 'get' one, try these people:-

Scaffolding Supplies

I have bought a few from them, and picked them up from a local affiliated depot.

A quid a foot. for new steel tubing.
