I knew Microsoft were cutting costs here and there, but 'cheap' product authenticity labels? Are they purposefully sabotaging themselves now?

After making a little investigation of my own hands, can I confirm something?

Your laptop thats over 10 years old, the label, its finish is almost like its been laminated? And the label on your new netbooks, more like the finish to a magazine cover?

That's what I've noticed with my equipment bearing Microsoft seals of authenticity anyway.

Laptop one's generally will wear off more so than on desktop computer's, Due to its portability, using it whilst on your lap etc. Easiest way to prevent this is to put some clear tape over the top of it.

Regards

we have only had the netbooks just over a week and parts of both labels are already illegible?

Granted they should not be wearing off withing that space of time, if not at all! If your purchase is from PC World, currys, comet etc, they usually come with either a Built in HDD factory reset installation program, or you make your own bootable Recovery CD. Not that it makes up for the fact its wearing away already, because it's generally not acceptable should you have a HDD failure after your warranty has expired.

Considering netbooks come with no optical drives, just how they expect you to make a recovery disk is beyond me(mine said it would require 9CD's or 2 DVD's, not including the driver disks No option to do it to a usb stick or external HDD.

Anyway I have copied the keys from both machines into my little green book with all my other keys and passwords so if anything goes wrong I will be able to re-install XP with an external cd rom.
