Default External PVR on satellite receiver?

Can anyone advise, please.
I have a satellite digital receiver Vantage X221TS CI (I actually have two of them), which I use to handle signals from four LNBs. I'm pleased with it but am thinking of expanding my system with some kind of PVR facility. My needs are probably fairly simple: to occasionally record a programme if I'm out (time shifting) and to pause/record/replay "live" TV if I'm interrupted by phone calls, etc. I suppose I should look for it to process Freeview as well as my four satellites. I don't watch a lot of TV and don't need a massive recording capacity - say, 50-100 hours.

The question is: is there an external recorder that would work with this Vantage model? Can anyone recommend one? Neither of my Vantage units has a USB port.
Or am I obliged to replace the Vantage units with receivers with integral PVRs (this is an expense I would like to avoid, besides I *like* the Vantage)?

Thank you.

Default Re: External PVR on (VANTAGE) satellite receiver?

(Maybe I should have put this message under "Satellite Receivers" > "Vantage"?)

I assume Moderator will delete one of the messages, if they're doubled ...

Thanks

I don't know of a unit apart from attaching a scart cable to a DVD recorder

As usual, I may have got my terminology / concepts wrong ... I'm not interested in recording programmes on DVDs for watching again in six years time. What I want to do is activate a temporary recording medium (perhaps a hard disk) long enough either to record a programme I can't watch because I know I'll be out shopping or to "apparently" pause a live programme (say Question Time) because my dog's fighting the neighbour's cat in the backyard and I have to sort them out. I want to come back in 10 minutes and carry on viewing the "live" (now hard-disk recorded) discussion programme.

Is there any hard-disk unit I could attach to my Vantage X221TS that would do that?

I used to have a Goodmans PVR that worked off a Scart input, and it would do timeslip. It was also a DVD Recorder. Haven't seen any about for a while now. So I think a DVD recorder would be the only way you could go. You could use rewritable discs and wipe them when you are done.

Tivo is one option. It is basically a HDD-based VCR.
Or any modern DVD recorder with HDD too. These also (now) have a Freeview tuner as standard. You don't have to use the DVD for recordings, but you can archive programmes to it that were recorded to the HDD (some will even allow editing at this stage).
