Default Few questions from a sat newbie

I just a few basic questions forgive me if I sound a bit stupid I am just new to all of this,

1:When setting up a reciever with a motorised dish does the dish scan for as many channels as it finds then loads them onto the channel list on the reciever during first time use and does the dish continuously scan incase any channels change frequency or does this not happen on satellite channels as I know it does happen on a cable box the channel doesn't work if its moved frequency?

2: Are the dreambox clone boxes safe to use?

3: What are the images, are these the same as a patched receiver or are they both 2 totally different things?

4: How often to you have to keep the receiver patched up to date, are the updates often or do they normally a take a few months to be released?

5: I was also thinking of cardsharing and I realized that the receiver has to be connected to the internet at all times are there any particular routers you would suggest for this use?

6: Could you watch 2 seperate channels with 1 receiver or would you need 2 receivers for this, I believe a LNB allows you to connect a cable feed from the dish to the satellite receiver correct so would a twin LNB work in this situation?

7: Is a 100cm dish big enough to watch the 3pm football matches?

Thanks guys

Just a few basic answers then

1. You need to tell the reciever to scan, Some recievers will do a multisat scan and move the dish, others have to be scanned 1 sat at a time. If a channel moves transponder then you usually have to do a rescan.

2. Personally I wouldn't own a clone. Some of the 500 clones will not drive a motor, and some images will kill your reciever if its a clone. Why not look at something like the TM500/600, I know from experience that these are very good boxes.

3. Yes it's kind of the same thing.

4. It really depends on what you want to do with the box, and how often providers change their encryption.

5. Not really, I personally have a netgear router, but most will work fine.

6. If you get a twin tuner reciever you can watch one channel while recording another provided you have a dish pointing at the right sat for each channel. If your motorised dish is pointing at 1w, you can't use it to watch 28e at the same time.

7. 100cm should be plenty for the major packages.

Hope that helps.

I don't think they do. For HD I think your options are either AZBox, which are still pretty buggy, or Dreambox. The Technomates 500, 600 and 9100 super are all SD recievers but work very well with CCcam.

Cool I might go for a technomate 5200 receiver then I could always buy a hd receiver in the future and have them in 2 separate rooms, if I did buy a technomate 5200 receiver and later brought a dreambox hd could I watch 2 different channels at once on 1 sat dish providing I had at least a twin lnb?
Also last question is the picture quality good on the technomate receivers?
I noticed they have component output so I expect it should be good?
Thx bro

Sorry if I wasn't clear m8,

The 5200 won't run CCcam etc. You want the TM500, TM600 or 9100super. Yes you can always upgrade later and use the box in another room if you have atleast a twin LNB on the dish.

I have the TM500 and 9100 super and get a good picture off both, easialy better than a standard sky box.

~I would also recommend talking to Ian at southern sat, before you buy any equipment.

Hi, sorry to butt into your post, i am also a newbie to sats so bear with me,

Been the unclever person i am i always jump into the deep end, with hardly no research i have bought a TM-6800 HD reciver unit with a diablo cam, ive now decided to do abit of research awaiting its arrival. im also thinking of using a 1m motorised disc, do u recommend this, does anyone know if the TM-6800 will drive a motorised disc

Basically the whole reason i have gone for a sat unit is to attempt to get 3pm football games

Thank you in advance for any help

Regards
Hatchy

Hi Hatchy,
Welcome to the forum.

The Technomate can drive a motor, and a good 1 Metre dish should get you most that's available.
Did you buy all this new?
I do hope you've gone for the new Diablo 2 cam and not the older Diablo 2.3, as the Technomate receiver will open the same as the old Diablo cam so it's not required.
You will also need a Cas programmer to update the Diablo Cam, I recommend a Cas 3+ as this can also program cards as well as cams.
Many satellite enthusiasts often change their receiver, but usually keep the same dish, so I would suggest theat you get a good quality dish and motor.
