Is that a surprise AS and did a rescan the other night and there are no where near the 200 channels they said there would be on Freesat, the odd one comes but more go so they stay about the same, given that all the BBC regions are some of the channels there are very few channels on the thing.

Wonder when we sill see proper programming in HD on Freesat, or for that matter BBC HD?

The 200 channels claim was withdrawn soon after launch.

The recession has killed off any chance of there being anywhere near 200 channels anytime soon - channels are closing faster than they are launching, with the distinct possibility of at least another 6 going early in the new year.

Free HD - no time soon. Its expensive for the benefit of comparitively few extra viewers. Also theres the age old problem of lack of capacity on Astra 2D.

The 200 Freesat channels included the regional BBC & ITV variants and the Radio stations.

I can see through the recession hitting them, but the lack of programs on HD is a bit much, the football on ITV 1 HD is woeful to say the least, at the start it was very good as was BBC, but I have heard that BBC have lowered their satellite signal strength or something and it shows big time and all done to make it on a par with Freeview, did you hear anything about that one AS?

Hope there will be something good on over Christmas at least. Before I go to bed is that the same frenquency that ITV HD was on before, I been fishing all day for all I got, nothing and the guy next to me got loads and his brother on the other side of him got nothing either and we were all using the same bait.

BBC HD have lowered the data-rate to match the Freeview HD signal, ITV HD dropeped their resolution to something like 980 x 1080 and got so many complaints, they claimed it was a configuration error and reverted to the 1520 x 1080 or 1440 x 1080 that BBC use - note they are both less than the standard 1920 x 1080

Hi

SATWORLD mentioned that ITV HD would be launched as a "linear" channel. What does this mean please?

Thanks.

At the moment,ITV HD is only available to view by accessing via the interactive RED button,on official Freesat receivers,or on certain SKY HD digiboxes via the add channels feature,or manual "tweaking" on some Free to air HD receivers/satellite PC cards.
It does not have its own epg slot with a dedicated number(s),on any platform, whether its Freesat or Sky.
With it relaunching as ITV HD 1,it will have a epg number and will be simulcasting the vast,or all the output of the standard definition,ITV 1's programming.
Hopefully,it will also probably mean, that it will be recordable on the Free to air pvrs.

I still cant see the point of HD, unless it is just to make the picture quality on LCD tv's as good as it was on the older CRT TV's If all channels were transmitted at a descent bite rate the picture quality in MPEG2 is fine.
