Default ROM180 Card info moved from Encryption prediction thread

Well, got hold of a card now and they are very real. Definately Rom180's with an interesting tier structure that implies that the CW/TW networks have been (or will be) fully merged. The cards in use in CW area's are using TW Id's !

NTL is fundamentally incompatible with the rest of the network because of its DAVIC roots. It will require some serious effort for VM to integrate it but more than likely it will get done at some point.

Saying that though, there is absolutely no reason why NTL cant still move over to the new encryption (it is being tested in NTL areas, seperate to the Leeds test) or why they cant use TW Id's for that new encryption to make things easy when the networks are fully merged at some future point in time.

There's no reason why N Ireland should fare any better than the rest of the country when it comes to card rollout time. The encryption itself doesn't care whether the underlying system is DOCSIS or DAVIC.

But a large part of the Yorkshire test area is exCW. How does that square with what your mate says?
Does it mean that not all the test area that have been sent new cards will change at the same time? Is the Yorkshire test area a mix of exCW and exTW?
Why send exCW new cards now if they're not changing yet? Why not wait?

It actually squares reasonably well. Leeds is just an easily isolated test area that happens to be an exCW area (although it now works more like an exTW area) but everything suggests that the real push will occur in TW areas first as they are the easiest to do.

But then again, VM do seem to be steering exCW areas towards full TW area compatability so who knows. Its all speculation

The card will always respond to normal in stream requests. If you send a legitimate command you will get a legitimate response, if you mean get into it like a 'glitched' rom11 then its probably no. But you never know with TheCoder. Would be interesting to see the comms he used though.

No, not in the way your hoping for. As Tesla has said you can get quite a lot of info from the card simply by pretending to be a stb. You can get all kinds of tier info simply by asking the card for it. Of course, the card isn't obliging enough to give you any key data !
