Default inverter or backlight?

hi guys i have a fujitsu siemens laptop and the screen went totally black,so after reading up a bit on checking inverters and backlights,i decided to check the inverter first, let me say first that you can actually see something on the screen although very very faintly,so i took out the inverter(easy in case anyone curious)and rebooted out of curiosity, same scenario, very faint but something there,my question is even though the inverter was unplugged the problem was the same as when plugged in,does this point to inverter problem or backlight problem in your opinion, sorry for such a long post.
