Default 2 brown cables on Sky box

Hi, believe it or not this is my first post EVER on any blog!
Anyhow here is my question: I have just moved house and there are all sorts of cables going on. I have just got virgin media (mainly because of the broadband) but there is also a digital Sky satellite dish.
There are 2 brown cables and also a Sky satellite box, I have plugged one of them in and I get loads of free channels. (to be honest the number of channels I get is better than the Virgin box, which I pay subscription for)
Sky let me keep the box from my old house, they said they couldn't be bothered to come and get it.
Anyway I was just wondering if I could use the second brown cable to connect another box (if I buy one off Ebay).
From my basic understanding the 2 cables are for Sky+ so you can watch one and record another, so I am rather hoping I can just use one of these for another box and watch different (allbeit free to view) channels on different tvs
If this is true then just how many feeds can you get off the dish?

Any answers much obliged my fellow bloggers

Thumbs up Re: 2 brown cables on Sky box

Hi, and welcome to the community
You might want to get someone up to look at your sky dish
however many outputs there are on your dish will determin how many boxes you can use at a time. If there are 2 cables plugged into the dish then you can plug 2 boxes in.

Hi,

Try the other brown cable in your Sky box, if it works OK, then yes, you can use for another box.

Generally Sky dishes have either single LNBs or quad LNBs on them. They don't do twin LNBs. So you most likely have a quad LNB, you can run 4 receivers of that, if you run the extra cables.

Thanks guys

I really appreciate all of your help.
When it stops raining I am going up to look at that dish.

There were 4 teenage lads living in this house before me, I have never seen so many tv inputs, phone inputs, cables in etc. There is an absolutely massive aerial on the rough and I am at the top of a hill (which I am sure must help)
We are in a Virgin media area that has the fibre optic 50Mb stuff. I suppose I am in a communications heaven in terms of choice.

Fingers crossed it is a quad LNB up there.

PS why are the free channels through the sky dish so much better than the other options (certainly Virgin), the choice is much wider and the quality is also much clearer.

Thanks again guys.

Because cable TV is crap and satellite TV is great.

It must be due to the compression ratios used on some channels I suppose, there is some really appalling quality pictures on some channels from other satellites.
