Thumbs up Windows 7 MC + DVB Link TVsource. Easy Cable TV within Media Centre

I have just purchased DVB-Logic's new TVSource software after being involved with the beta testing, and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of Cable or SAT on their PC.

I originally used DVBviewer 1.4 with Vista then Win7, as this was the only software that would work properly with my system (see Signature). However this would not work with DVBLink to get the channels into Media Centre.

This Software is essentially a receiver software which streams the channel signals as Direct to Media Centre as DVB-S, Via DVB-Logic's established DVBLink Server software.

The TV Source software on the other hand works like a dream with a relatively easy set-up compared to DVBViewer+DVB Link.

Here is my full list of Pros and cons for this software:

Pros:
  • Has 20 day free trial so you can make sure it works on your system
  • Small Installation size compared to other DVB applications
  • As the TVSource software is only a receiver/decryptor it uses much less processing runs and memory than other DVB applications
  • Fast channel changes of HD and encrypted channels in W7 MC.
  • I have been using the release version it for a couple weeks now and found the programme to be very stable with Win7 Media Centre - unlike the rest of the available DVB-Receiver/viewer programmes. Also all the reports form the beta testing and release on the DVB Logic forum state that it is stable for a wide range of DVB-C, S & T cards and HTPC setups.
  • Allows for 4 Turners to be used in addition to 4 DVB-T & DVB-C turners available in W7MC.
  • Will Simultaneously stream DVB-T, S & C to WMC
  • Capable of Network Streaming channels to other WMC PCs
  • Easy to set up decryption via a Plugins folder. + Easy to find advice and tools to get the best setup on DVB-Logic's own forum.
  • Quick responses to TQ's on the forum.
  • It is easy to combine & renumber channels before getting to WMC.
  • Lot of new tools to speed up channel configuration compared to DVBLink software.
  • Can select EPG info from source or XMLTV.
  • Can up-grade from previous DVB-Link softwares
Con's
  • Installation takes longer that other DVB applications, as you have to sync the channels in WMC.
  • Installation Instructions don't state the new options available for speeding up channel sync (e.g. being able to automatically match channel EPG sources to Channel Name's under One Provider e.g. Virgin Media).
  • Installation instructions don't state where and how to setup the plugins folder and decryption software/ driver dll, though this info is easily available on their Forum.
I found it best to send both my DVB-T and DVB-C signals through TVSource as this allows for easy syncing of the channel numbering speeding up combining of the channels in WMC rarther than trying to do it all in WMC.

You can down load the trial program from DVB-Logic here: DVBLogic - provider of digital streaming connectivity solutions,
And you can view the TVSource section of the forum hear: DVBLogic • View forum - DVBLink TVSource

How quick is your Channel Change Speed? Also, what DVB-C Card are you using?

Channel change speed is usually instant though on some of the encrypted HD Channels take about 1 Second.

My biggest issue is that my signal strength isn't very good, and the booster I bought made it worse with DVBViewer. All but a few of the channels are affected with TVSource.

does it work with vplug... one bad point is you still need to buy 2 programs to do one thing.. which is scam..

You ONLY need to purchase TVSource...VPlug is Free (You need to create a Plugins folder in DVBLogic/DVBLink/Sources/TVSource/Plugins....it is not there by default).

DVBLink/TVSource now has networked drivers, so you can now view your TV on client Machines (Extenders- Any PC?laptop/Netbook with Media Center)
