I use a few dozen webhosts - hosting costs are usually so low that if you can, you really should buy your own hosting - not least because it gives you a better identity for branding, and also allows you to be in full control of everything (I've known free providers delete everything).
Of course, if you aren't at a stage where you're able to pay then free hosting is an option, but it's not really ideal for developing websites for the long-term. 2c. |

Free hosting would usually be good only when starting out or for beginners testing the waters. But for long-term purposes, paid hosting is still the best. I've heard people complain about Yahoo's paid hosting service. I wonder how bad it can get since it is Yahoo and it is paid.

I have wondered about Yahoo paid hosting as well, Beatrix. I also think it is good to start out with free hosting, get your feet wet and then go into paid. That seems to be the general consensus.

I agree, hokeshel. So many times I considered getting paid hosting, but built the website on a free hosting service instead. Sure enough, I grew tired of the project pretty quickly.
A host I would recommend, however, is A Small Orange (http://www.asmallorange.com/). |
