sorry if this is a stupid question but i thought id ask now since cable will soon b going off, does this dreambox connect to sky and will it recieve all the channels?

It will not do any such thing. If you want Sly you pay Murdock for it. If you have been using the DB for cable it is useless for satellite, you might be able to fit a new satellite tuner to it, but chances are it is a clone and not wort the effort.

Yup if its got a cable tuner in it then its no good for satellite. As KW says you may be able to fit a satellite tuner in it.

Sky via satellite is secure so theres no way of getting all the channels free. Its going to cost you *somewhere* and the easiest way to pay is just to subscribe to SKy and get them to come and fit the equipment for you.
