He has a point, but my advice would be don't let ye self get bullied. Stand up for yourself. It's not like they are 3 years old.
I don't post much - I read, and by the looks of it, you post and do the same. Junior mambers sould do the same, however its always nice to be pointed in the right direction. |

@ ao101
It must be quite frustrating sometimes on both sides reading the same old questions over and over and also the same old replies to which i have been guilty of myself to an extent over the years, and sometimes there are threatening and very abusive and offensive posts that should never ever be tolerated here or any other forums. However a few points made by yourself i personally disagree with and im sure other members wether senior or not will agree with. You say that if you want to learn you ask questions, thats all fine and dandy if your in a classroom environment, on a forum however the proper decorum is to do as much research with all the available information to you and then ask questions on the parts you do not understand or want more info on. There is a vast amount of info available across the forums and on the net and its very easy to access it. You also say you hope junior members read these posts in order to take action against any abuse, ironically that would only ever happen if they took the time to research the topic of abusive replies and did a search regarding it to turn up this thread. My advice to anyone would be to read the rules, read the stickies and use the search function to find out as much as you can, then if you word your post properly you should be able to avoid being flamed to badly. If on the otherhand you are a lazy minded person and want spoonfeeding you will need to have a thick skin and a fireproof suit.

i remember a while back. some guy wanted to flash a dreambox 500c .
i asked if he could ping the box. his reply was. how do i do that. if someone does not know basic stuff like that. then maybe they dont deserve help. that is just my opinion. we are all entitled to an opinion just like ao101 is but dont get raged just cos someone dont wanna help and gets annoyed by n00bs. as for cyber bulling are you a man or mouse? stand up for yourself!! one last thing, i firmly believe its the wide spread use of cable boxes and modems that have killed the cable scene. i dont feel everyone should know how to do it just because you ask? remember google is your friend !! i got all my answers not by asking but by using my eyes and brain |

My advice would be to not fight back in the open forum, simply report posts directed at yourself that are abusive.
As a point of fact, some high posting senior members have 'gone' from the forum in the past due to their continued abusiveness to those less knowledgeable. And to those that do like to belittle those beginners and the like, instead of trying to make them look stupid, why not either ignore them, or post a link to a thread where their quetsion has already been answered.

Some questions on here are just plain annoying, not in themselves, but for the simple reason that they have been answered a few threads above the one they are asked in. It is like listening to a record player with the needle stuck or a parrot in the corner. If telling people to go google something, which has been explained over and over before, then the world and the people in it have become even more lazy.
Some people are asking about things with it is no permitted to discuss on here, when they are told to go google their question, a very sound and helpful response, they take offence. The whole world has become lazier the more it has become dependent on technology. People just do not want to be bothered to look for answers, they want them handed to them on a plate. There are stickies at the top, there because they are recurring topics or questions. There is also a search option. It would appear that some members are not prepared to use these and just ask for help, help for subjects that have been covered countless times. The word bullying can hardly be used to describe someone's annoyance, caused by the likes of the above. If a member is consistently picking on the one member then you could well call that bullying, but I fail to see where that is occurring. If there is any bullying, I am quite sure that it would be picked up on by the Mods and the offender warned as to their conduct. As has been stated, but better to say it again for those who could not be bothered to look, there is the report button, which looks like a give-way sign, to the bottom left of the post plane, if anyone feels they are being bullied then by all means use it. Regards Wez

I was actually helping somebody out when another joined and mentioned something that is not to be discussed, I then curiously ask to hear more, and why shouldn't I. It was a discussion ! Neither of us knew it wasn't to be discussed, but instead of somebody who DID know coming on board and saying the likes of "guys talking of so and so is not permitted, if you want more info please google it" then that would have been fine. But no, it was led with a pedantic reply followed by google it, then other's saw the opportunity to add more arsey remarks and know it all links etc. Which is bang out of order. People saying it is annoying reading the same silly question ? Simple don't read them ! Surely it is just as easy to type a link they need than it is to type google it ! ANd if you can't be bothered doing either just roll your eyes and get on with your life ! And to those who say stick up for yourselves.... Thats fine, unless a mod is on the bandwagon, then its you that ends up with the warning !! |

I've no problem with you expressing your opinion but please stick to facts rather than making sweeping statments which just arent true.

Sorry but have you read every post on every thread ? Look i'm not looking for another argument but you know nothing of what i am talking about, so keep your hypocritical comments to yourself thanks. And this is the attitude that stinks "I have no problem with you expressing your opinion" !!! Well thanks for that matey, I feel honored that you allow me to do such a thing. But i'm afraid to say I would express my opinion whether you liked it or not. |
