I bought a Sony Vaio, mainly because I was planning to go to a couple of small business conferences later that year, and figured I'd need a laptop.
I'm really glad I bought it, though - a laptop is just so versatile - because it's wireless it's great to use downstairs on an evening. Having a laptop was also something of a lifesaver when I had problems with my desktop - I was still able to use my laptop to work with. The installed Vaio software is a bit of a distraction and seen it act a bit buggy - but I figure if I'd really wanted the media apps it has installed I'd have bought them separately. Overall, a great machine and no complaints.

I have a twinhead Durabook 15D. It is made by a Malaysian manufacturer to military standard 912F (or something like that) so it is drop resistant, shock resistant, and spill proof. It has a 1.6 Pentium Processor, 1GB Ram, 40GB hard disk and integrated intel graphics. Its mainly for writing books on so I don't need anything flashy and I'm rather pleased with it. Only gripe is the screen, it has a crap viewing angle - colours change fractionally within an inch of me moving my head.

I just got a new Dell Inspiron B1300 that I am using to do some writing and stuff. I did not need anything really souped up and considering how cheap it was I feel like I got a heck of a deal. Pretty nice machine. I was just talking to my brother last night, and he is a hardcore laptop user, has 2 or 3 of them at a time because he is always on the road. He just bought his first mac, a dual-core and he is going to dual boot XP on it.
That might be my next move in the future as well. |
