Default Updating a V+ Card

Hi,

I'm sure this subject has been covered many times. I think I've got all the info I need, but I want to check that I'm on the right track and haven't missed any important steps. I also have some questions to hopefully help me understand what has happened.

The other day my V+ box informed me that my V+ subscription had expired. I didn't set the box up, I bought it from someone who does all that. I asked them about it and they said the card has expired and they can do me a new one for £40. I'm certain I can do the update myself, so I've had a good read here. It seems to me that all I have to do is take the card and edit the Rights & Expiry dates in Nagra Edit, using a Phoenix programmer. Is this correct? Is that all I need to do?

I would also like to understand what happened to my card. Could it expire due to something Virgin have done, or could it only happen due to the Rights & Expiry dates? (I do have a talkback filter attached.) Can I check this when reading the card?

Hope you can help, thanks.

£40! No chance lol, that's way to expensive. All you have to do is read the card in Nagra Edit (using a Phoenix Programmer) and change the rights and expiry dates on tier 8 (the pink one, there maybe more than one tier 8 so change the rights and expiry dates on them all if there is). I normally use 399f. Once this is done, write back to the card, insert it and all your channels should come back on .

Cheers for the quick responses everyone. (You too Johny5, can't answer due to lack of posts!)

There was no way I was going to pay that, I knew it would be simple enough to update when you know how.

The programmer's on the way, I'll let you know how I get on.

Hello again,

The programmer arrived just before xmas, just haven't had much time to do anything with it.

I hoped it would be as simple as blakey described. Unfortunately I'm getting asked for backdoor 0 password. I've tried AMO's backdoor key tutorial, but XNCS fails to dump the card.

Any ideas what I can try next?

So it seems this card is locked. Is there anything else I can do? Any way I can wipe the card and start again?

The bloke that sold me the box is doing unlocked ROM11 cards for £8 each, would I be better off just buying one of those?

Just thought it might useful to give an update here.

I tried using MROM (many times) but I still couldn't get past the backdoor key. Tried some backdoor unlockers and got the same result.

In the end, thanks to the help of someone on here, I got it unlocked with an unlooper and that got around the problem.

Thanks again to those that helped and offered to help.
