hi all im moving to mexico and want to keep my subscription to sky active but checked it out and i wont be able to receive it on astra 2d any ideas besides usin a slingbox

my dad will be usin the box in ireland and with sling box u can only watch that channel if i change over he will change back

You wont be able to watch ANY of the European satellites over in Mexico.

Most UK slingboxes have DTT tuners in them so that might be an alternative for you.

i heard that you can hook the box up to a server or pc but i havent the faintest idea as the usb connection on my sky+ doesnt do anything would i need to put my card into another box and try connecting to the pc then ??? and if so what box would i need

Well doesn't that mean that you're paying for your dad's tv package?
If anything, if you get Multiroom at your dad's on top of the top package and split the overall bill 50/50 you're gonna be saving money. Hook your multiroom box up to a Slinbox and get yourself a Slingcatcher or something for your tv in mexico.

That's pretty much your only simple option.
The USB on your Sky+ isn't usable for anything but connecting it to a pc in whatever way that does work would only give you similar functionality to a slingbox, it just wouldn't be as easy.

In conclusion, my advice is to get Multiroom on your dad's Sky subscription, split the overall cost 50/50, hook the extra box upto a slingbox and connect to the internet. Then go to mexico and plug in a Slingcatcher to the internet and your tv and you should be sorted, provided that the internet connection in the uk has a decent upload speed.
