Not so I am afraid, how can damage done by the atomic bombs which were dropped on Japan be revers engineered? There are lots of examples of things which cannot be revers engineered, but in the case of N3 I would agree that it probably can be, it has been running without any public hack for well over two years now and it will take a lot of cash to hack it. I was very hopeful that it would be hacked in the early days, when it first came into satellite TV, but have just about given up on it.
In time, when you cable boys have been without N3 encrypted programing for as long as we satellite boys have, you will realise that it is not going to happen. I am quite sure that if it is hacked and that hack made public, there will be another Nagra variant just waiting to be implemented, and before you all start shouting that VM will not be able to afford it, rest assured that they will have it written into their contract that if N3 fails, within a reasonable period, they will have then new variant free and if it has done as good a job as it has with satellite, then VM will be very happy with it. If after the reasonable period has expired, VM will be so pleased with it's performance that they will be only too glad too buy into the new variant of the system. Just getting a box and modding it will no longer be any good for stealing VM channels, just get used to it and go buy into some pay TV provider. Before you all go saying what about CS? CS will also be going the way of modded boxes. Sly Italy did a job on CS of it's cards, which has subsequently been beaten by the right EMU, but it is widely expected that Sly UK will be following suit and when it has been sorted I have no doubt that VM will jump straight on to the band wagon. Just get a subscription for a pay TV provider and save yourself money, or do like a lot of us do, watch FTA satellite TV and hope and pray there will be a hack for some of the encryption systems out there. Regards Wez

Or simply use freeview for all the usual crap and download all your wanted premium movies and tv progs, watch whenever you want no ad's no hassle and you will also have a good excuse to get to the pub when the footy is on. Thats my contingency plany anyway.

That my friend is very good advice, it's what I do, and tbh I've not missed most of the crap they give us for silly £££.

To answer the original question - only a very few people at VM know and they are not telling.
In Leeds, the first sign was the roll-out of v3.7 firmware followed by testing of the new CaID. The v3.7 started appearing about 4 Months before the N1 was switched off. AIUI, v3.7 has not appeared anywhere else, so if the rest of the UK follows the same schedule, then everywhere has over 4 Months left. Now, it's likely that the schedule could be accelerated, but nobody on the forum knows for sure.

Nagra 3 has been in use for well over 2 years in Portugal for the satellite pay tv service in use there. There was a very active hacker scene there quite happily watching Portuguese TV for free. Nagra 3 is still secure there. And the same in Spain where their service changed over a couple of years back as well. Anyone who wants to watch now has to pay in Spain as well. So is Nagra 3 going to ruin your viewing pleasure - Yes Is there an easy hack for it - No Is there likely to be a hack for it in the near future - Unlikely (and certainly not in the short term)
