Default best audio codec to use?

I have a pretty stable setup with MP and Vista. However, every now and then I get a channel that is stuck. atm I have having difficulty with sly sci-fi. The picture is frozen and there is no sound. Funny enough, it is the same symptoms in Preview mode. Graphedit tells me my sound is using FFDshow audio which seems to work with 99.9% of the channels. Just wondering what audio codec are you guys using?
