It seems that despite having the technology to skip adverts, the average UK TV viewer is in fact sitting through more adverts now than they did over ten years ago.According to the report by the advertising industry body Thinkbox, ten years ago viewers were watching on average thirty three adverts a day, but currently this [...]

Thats mostly because there are a lot more adverts than there were 10 years ago. Typically, 10 years ago a 1 hour program consisted of 50 mins of program and 10 mins of adverts, usually coming at 20 min intervals.
Now, you'd be lucky to get 40 mins of program with adverts coming at all sorts of odd intervals. We also seem to of followed the US trend of showing 3-5 mins of program followed by program intro followed immediately by adverts so your lucky if you get more than 5 mins of actual program before the first set of adverts. Also, 10 years ago, the BBC was a major channel. People spent almost 50% of their viewing experience watching a channel without adverts. These days, of course, the BBC are almost marginal channels. I'm sure as people get used to pvr's etc many more will get into the habit of recording just about everything and watching when they feel like it. That 32x function really does sort the adverts out nicely ! |

And they are trying to say that they are losing revenue by not getting enough ads, what a load of c&ap. I would rather watch BBC than any of them, but it is not possible as you all well know.
How do they calculate who is watching ads? The person might well be out making the tea or whatever, like I do, anything to get out the room when they are on. If they start putting too many ads on people here will not stand for it like they do in the states, I for one think there are too many ads as it is. I did see something, I think it was on here, that they are considering allowing more ads per show can't see it being popular with anyone except the ad makers and TV companies. The football is terrible for ads, they even start very early so they can get them all in, next they will want breaks for ads during the game, or do like the yanks do, and have an ad every time there is a break in the game. Boxing is now so full of ads there is no inter round comments from the "experts". I reckon that no one in their right mind would sit and watch the rubbish ads that they have on now. I have a feeling that the OP in this thread is well off the mark and as The Coder says there are so many of them now and also so many watching Sly and VM, but not sitting there watching the ads, but going out the room when they are on, that does not constitute the watching of ads. Season's Greetings Wez
