dreambox is for satellite, and there is plenty of information on card sharing on google.

i've got a digital satelite dish on my house... so does that mean i can just by a dreambox and it will work similar to the cable boxes?

the box is not plug and play, you will have to set it up.

setting it up for freeview shouldnt be too hard.

but card sharing is another story.

and then i got to car swap to get all the channels

That is correct, but only if you are using a Sly dish, on the Astra 2 group of satellites @28.2 East. If, however, you have a motorised dish, something of 80 cm or bigger, then you can cover all the satellites that are visible from the UK/Ireland.

What you need to understand is that you need a great deal of patients and some experience of communicating between your computer and the receiver. You will not just take it out of the box, plug it in and get everything that is possible with a Dreambox, or any other Linux box. You need to have the box connected to the net and be able to send files to the box. Having said that, once you get your box set up as you require it, you will benefit from a great receiver.
