Default What do I need to receive Hotbird 8

I am a complete beginner and want to receive channels from Hotbird 8. Mainly TVE the Spanish channels. I think I need a 80cm dish but don't know about the LNB or what kind of receiver I would need.

It depends where you are, that makes a big differance as to what you can recieve, but generally Hotbird is recievable in most of the UK on a Zone1 Minidish.

I'm down near Southampton so I guess that reception would be pretty good.

Yes a Zone 1 minidish will get you Hotbird. It might be worth you looking at a 60 or 80cm dish and you could pick up Astra1 as well with a monoblock. Depends if there is anything on there of interest to you.

Thanks for that. I've heard of this monobloc but I have no idea what it is. Is it on the dish itself?

It is the LNB, the bit that sits on the dish arm. A normal LNB looks at 1 satellite. A monoblock looks at 2.

Actually it's 2 lnb's and a DiseQc switch in 1 case.

Both answers are right just depends how technical you want it.

There's more Spanish channels on 30W. Now if you got a 90cm dish you could focus on 24.5 W for some FTA Mexican channels also, with 30W on the offset.

Actually a monoblock might work on those two too, but I have only done it with two individual LNBs.

Monoblock LNB(6 degrees,in order to receive Astra 1 @19E and Hotbird @13E)
There are 3 degree (for 13E and 16E),and 4.3 degree monoblocks(for 19E and 23.5E,or 9E and 13E)

Photos below.
1.=6 degrees
2.=4.3 degrees
3.=3 degrees

Hello! I'm in exactly the same situation, i guess we're all looking for alternatives since Sky removed the spanish channel!

Please could you explain what 30W is?
I LOVE the south american channels, proper trash-tele!
Thanks!!
