Wel said Harry.

But all posts in this thread are on topic by default, as it is an 'off topic' thead, split from the original.

(and much more popular, judging by the number of views and posts)

My goodness, 8 pages of banter. Some people have too much time on their hands.

We've had a lot of problems with hex codes being posted primarily to deliver keys.

Despite the fact the rules are emailed to new members, PM'ed to new members, and linked to for reference to new members - and the rules say "no keys" - even now we still get people signing up and posting keys on the forums.

It has been such a serious problem in the past that at one point I tried to censor out hex code, but this tended to delete satellite angles as well, ie, 30E, etc.

So the situation at present is that if there is uncertainty about a post, it is safer to remove it - otherwise, the danger is other people will think it's accepted to post keys and similar, and we have a whole pandora's box opening.

Remember as well, while TW has a legal responsibility as a publisher, members are legally responsible for their own posts - and I would hate for anyone decent on here getting into trouble with the law for what they post - so remember, moderating is not really about protecting the forums - it's actually more about protecting the overall community and its members.

Nothing is deleted here either - everything is archived in a private area for future reference, which is especially helpful when dealing with troublesome members - so any moderating decisions can be reversed quite easily.

And, as Analogsat stated, even mods are quite answerable for their actions.

Just everyone remember, though - the mods here put their personal time into looking after the overall *community* - and not only is it a thankless job when things go right, they are the first in the firing line when things go wrong.

It's a sad fact of moderating, and it's why any donations made to TW are shared out among the mods at Christmas. It's a pitiful thanks, really, when you consider how much time they do actually put in, but at least it's some form of thanks, because precious little is given ordinarily anyway.

Yes, there are mods who specialise in cable, and some who specialist in satellite, and others with interests elsewhere - but all the mods are given to keep an overall eye on the community.

And they will act where they feel necessary, because every single mod here at TW does have the community interest at heart. And when something comes up, t's safer just to act for everybody, because the action can be reversed as necessary - which seems a whole lot safer than leaving potentially illegal material up and suffering the consequences for it.

In the meantime, it's probably a good idea if TheCoder PM's Lincsat about the original thread, and if Lincsat agrees it's fine to post, then his decision is fine with me and the thread will go back up. Nothing lost.

In the meantime, it would be nice to see less encouragement of "us" vs "them" mentality on any topic here, because it's not healthy at all for the forums or the community - at the end of the day, I'm sure there are far more things we have in common than divide us, so better to focus on the former, not the latter.

And they will act where they feel necessary, rather than wait around for a more specialist mod to login so a council can be set up to decide whether a certain action can or should be taken.

It's safer just to act, because the action can be reversed as necessary - which seems a whole lot safer than leaving potentially illegal material up and suffering the consequences for it.

Ive no problem with anyone here, everyone has always been helpful to me. I found solutions and got help when getting my Krypt, i found answers and got help when looking into Sat. The reason i am here and still posting is because everyone helped me so i'd like to put some of that back into the community.

TW is a community and like any community not everyone is going to get along, but lets try and keep it civil peeps, there is no need for stress here.

I know that first hand - a few years ago on a previous forum I made a mistake when setting up an anti spam rule in the control panel. Not only did I ban several dozen members I managed to ban several of the moderators as well.

I of course found it hilarious when I found out what Id done

I still get ribbed about it even today

As we all know, moderators are a well known source of Spam
