Default Can the new HD receivers work on standard def tv too?

hi, i am looking to get one of the HD receivers but have not got my hdtv just yet. will these new hd boxes work on standard def for now? thanks.

You can upscale them on standard televisions to improve the picture slightly, but not much.

but will be the same quality as normal standard def atleast right? just want to get the hd boxes now to be future proof as i will defo get a hdtv at some point.

Yes and VM doesn't offer many HD channels at present. I think they only air about 8 channels. HDTVs are coming down in price pretty quickly mate, if you want one then try and get one in a sale where they are even cheaper .

You can indeed use them on a standard tv and even get the available HD channels.
One word of advice though is that futureproof isn't really a word that's being used much around here with the impending doom that is Nag3.

lol i see what you mean with the 'shush..we dont mention that name..(N3)', that why i finally decided to get the starview combo hd. this will work on both cable and sat. never knew sat could be hacked too. But i really dont know much abouts its quality, any help will be good. btw blakey is an awesome guy, really helped me move onwards from being a noob lol, thanks!

Thats a bit misleading, my EX7000 gives better quality than my EX5100 on standard def channels. I assume you meant not as good as in not HD quality, not that the HD box didnt handle SD content aswell as an SD box
