Default Re: Quick question regarding Nagra 3

If and when this rumour is substantiated and the box appears, it will not be cheap. I cannot for any sane reason figure why there would be a manufacturer who would want to work on a box for the Irish market, which is at best a few thousand, is beyond me. There is the possibility that some would want to experiment with the Irish system, as it might not be that difficult to get around with CS and then they would hope to have a start for the UK market. If they are for CS then they have to be Linux boxes and as such will not be cheap and due to demand they will be out of reach for loads of people.

What I do not understand is why anyone would want to share a cable card, when they could have a motorised satellite system and CS. That would mean they would be able to get all the 3 PM kicks offs and just about every game from all over Europe, not to mention the more up-to-date films and all the docu channels, and all for possible the same outlay that one of these receivers would cost, if and when they appear. It seems to be a no brainer to me, just go down the satellite route, it will end up cheaper and there is a better chance of free CS, which is what CS is supposed to be all about. Paying for CS is really defeating the purpose of CS, which was always intended to be free, once a card was bought.

I know that the idea of sharing a cable card is that a group will share a card, but then they are going to have to pay at the very least £20 a month for their paid CS, nothing very free about that. But then any paid CS, for cable, will most likely cost loads more than £20 a month and paid CS is a sure way to end up without anything. You got to remember that if the paid server is discovered and raided, all the names of those paying will be easy to recover, this in turn could lead to court and a heavy fine.

Whatever the outcome of this box, real or just more lies, the fact remains, do not use a paid CS server, it is the best way to get shafted, by fly-by-night scum who will take the money and run and then there is the possibility of getting a heavy fined. I am sure it will not be that long to wait to see if this is just rumour or there is truth in it.

Regards Wez

If it comes with a sever already setup thats just asking for trouble.

It would seem pointless to launch a box without something setup, I would supect the actual server would be overseas, maybe Russia, China or even Korea, just so long as the ping isn't too high. But we really are just speculating until a box does happen to appear.

I can understand people that don't like or cannot have dishes wanting a cable C/S, but as Kerrywez points out, there are way more channels on Satellite, even a fixed dish Sky system. I've seen a few dodgy looking premium C/S servers, some quite expensive and a couple of good looking ones, with Sky UK on offer for the equivalent of less than £10 per Month. You also have the option of Free servers with less QOS, sharing between friends or even sharing around your own House.

Like with most things - you make a choice, you pay the money and take your chances.
