With DVB Dream, I am using NVideo Pure for video codec and AC£ for Audio codec - I get picture/sound on SD channels but when on HD channels all I get it sound and no video (just a black screen)
any ideas as to the problem |

On the DVB Dream Beta you can use the Microsoft HD codecs that come with Windows 7. There was no epg working for it tho so I went back to the normal version.

well no matter what codec I used in DVB Dream no HD channels come up (get audio) however if I record the HD channel as MPG then I can view the video file in Media Player and no problems
last night I decided to install ProgDVB and guess what, I can view HD channels - using same codecs as DVB Dream, picture a bit choppy but think its my PC not powerful enough what is ideal hardware to view HD Channels - especially video card - my desktop is a Compaq 2.6 Ghz P4, 1 GB RAM and on board Intel video card |

I've run DVB apps on lesser specs than that. I used to have a 1.8ghz AMD with 1gb RAM. In fact, it might even have been just 512mb, and it handled everything just fine. I forget which videocard I was using, but it wasn't particularly powerful.
That said, onboard cards often share the main memory, but with 2gb, it still seems like you should have more than enough. MPEG2 really isn't all that demanding, even at HD resolutions, and most DVB cards' recommended specs are well below yours, so I wonder if you might have a driver issue that's causing problems. Or if you're using Vplug, try changing the modules under the CSA menu. I remember one of them would nearly grind my PC to a halt. Some PCs also have latency issues that can cause the problems you describe. There's a tool called PCI Latency Tool that allows you to change that, but it might be worth googling the subject, so you know to diagnose it, and which settings to try. Sometimes moving the DVB card to another PCI slot can make a difference as well. Try seeing if the DVB app has any settings for software buffering or latency. Also, when you're on a stuttering HD channel, try hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the Performance tab to see how CPU and Memory are doing, and then see how it compares with an SD channel. |
